It will serve to help prevent the side-to-side rocking that causes toilet leaks at the wax ring seal/toilet flange. It also serves a sanitary function. It is required by code to caulk fixtures that contact the wall or floor.
Usually we would not caulk around the rear of the toilet because no one can see back. And not on wood and sundry other surfaces.. I don't recommend sealing around the base to floor — see previous posts by havanagranite and goldhiller.
